Independence Day is one of Austin's most celebrated holidays, and 2026 is especially significant as the nation marks America's 250th anniversary. From waterfront fireworks displays and live music to hometown parades and community festivals, there are plenty of ways to celebrate across Austin and the Hill Country.

Whether you're looking for a traditional parade, an evening fireworks show, or a full day of family activities, here are some of the top Fourth of July events happening around Austin this year.

Star Spangled Fest at Auditorium Shores

Austin's largest Fourth of July celebration returns to Auditorium Shores on July 4. The free event features live entertainment throughout the day, culminating with the Austin Symphony Orchestra performing patriotic favorites followed by a fireworks display over Lady Bird Lake. The festival runs from 10 a.m. to 10 p.m. and remains one of the city's most iconic Independence Day traditions.

Many attendees arrive early to secure viewing spots along Auditorium Shores, the South First Street Bridge, Congress Avenue Bridge, and the Pfluger Pedestrian Bridge.

Hill Country Galleria Independence Day Festival

For those in the western suburbs, the annual Independence Day Festival at Hill Country Galleria in Bee Cave offers an afternoon and evening filled with live music, local shopping, family activities, and a fireworks finale. The event is scheduled for July 4 beginning at 4 p.m. and is a favorite gathering spot for residents of Bee Cave, Lakeway, and Southwest Austin.

Lakeway's 50-Year Fourth of July Tradition

Lakeway continues one of the area's most beloved community celebrations with its annual Fourth of July Parade beginning at 8:30 a.m. along Lakeway Drive. Following the parade, residents and visitors can enjoy the traditional Hot Dog Reception at the Lakeway Activity Center beginning at 10 a.m.

This year's celebration honors both America's 250th anniversary and Lakeway's longstanding Independence Day tradition, making it a special event for families throughout the community.

Willie Nelson's Fourth of July Picnic

A true Texas tradition, Willie Nelson's Fourth of July Picnic returns with a lineup of nationally recognized performers, live entertainment, and fireworks. First launched in 1973, the event has become synonymous with Independence Day in Central Texas and continues to draw visitors from across the state.

Tips for Enjoying the Holiday

With large crowds expected throughout Austin, consider these tips before heading out:

  • Arrive early for parking and prime viewing locations.
  • Stay hydrated and plan for summer temperatures.
  • Use rideshare or public transportation when attending downtown events.
  • Bring blankets or portable seating where permitted.
  • Check event websites before attending for updated schedules and parking information.

Celebrating Community in Austin

One of the things that makes Austin special is the variety of ways residents can celebrate together. Whether you're watching fireworks over Lady Bird Lake, enjoying live music in Bee Cave, or waving from the sidelines of the Lakeway parade, the Fourth of July is a reminder of the strong communities that make Central Texas such a wonderful place to call home.
